Executive Director’s Special Message: March, 2024

We at HHA mourn the passing of Commissioner Aaron Lewit 0n February 27th, 2024.

As we at HHA approach our first Board of Commissioner’s Meeting without Aaron, we deeply mourn because we have lost a man that was so totally dedicated to HHA’s mission of bringing quality housing to the low and moderate-income populations of Hoboken and beyond. I cannot fully express the sadness that has pervaded our Board of Commissioners, staff, and many HHA Residents since that fateful day of Aaron’s passing from this world.

As HHA’s Executive Director, I worked with Aaron closely on projects both big and small.  I valued the wisdom that he provided based on his many years of devoting his life – both professionally and personally – to improving the community in which he lived and loved. I often turned to him for guidance, and for that guidance I will always be in his debt.

Yet even more, HHA as an organization striving for excellence is in Aaron’s debt.  He brought insight, rationality, and perspective to his role as an HHA Commissioner. If there was something about Housing that he did not know, he would make it his duty to find out. If there was a difficult issue in front of the Board, I would watch and learn as he brought an honest and well thought out proposal to solve the issue to the table. And always – always – with the best interest of HHA Residents, both current and future, at the forefront of his thoughts.

As our thoughts and prayers have gone out to Aaron’s wife and life partner Lynne, and his son Nathanael, we know that Aaron Lewit will be remembered and honored at HHA by all that knew and loved him

Aaron, you will be missed!
