Hoboken Housing Authority Takes Strong Stand Against Violence on Its Properties
HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY - The Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) is deeply concerned about recent incidents of violence on its properties. As of this past week, there have been multiple fights that have occurred, which is particularly alarming given the violence that occurred on our property last summer, including shootings while children were playing on the Mama Johnson Field and a fatal shooting resulting in a death on our property.
The Authority wants to make it unequivocally clear that we will not tolerate violence on our properties. We are committed to ensuring that all of our residents feel safe and secure in their homes, and we will take all necessary measures to address any instances of violence.
We will be strictly enforcing the lease and policy provisions regarding violence, which include penalties and consequences for those who engage in violent behavior on our properties. These consequences may include eviction, termination of assistance, and referral to law enforcement for prosecution.
The HHA is also working closely with local law enforcement agencies to increase patrols and surveillance on our properties. We have also increased our partnerships with community-based organizations and service providers to address the underlying causes of violence and provide our residents with access to education, job training, and mental health services.
We understand that creating a peaceful and safe community requires a collective effort, and we urge all members of our community to join us in this effort. We call on all residents to report any incidents of violence or suspicious behavior to the HHA or local law enforcement agencies immediately.
We remain committed to maintaining safe, healthy, and welcoming communities for all of our residents. The HHA will continue to work tirelessly to prevent and address violence on our properties.
